Ever wondered how corn, green beans, blueberries, and strawberries are individually frozen instead of a huge clump? That’s possible through something known as the Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) method. Fun fact, you can also individually freeze chicken breasts and even whole poultry like frozen turkey. You may be asking what exactly IQF is to begin with. IQF foods are famous for the fact that each individual piece of food is frozen separately from the other pieces of food. For example, a bag of IQF peas contains individually frozen peas that are loose inside the bag as opposed to them all being lumped together in one block of frozen peas. Individual pieces are easier to work with versus one, big clump. When the food is quickly frozen, small ice crystals are formed which don’t damage the fibers of the food and retain the food’s form and freshness. On the other hand, when you slow freeze the food, large crystals are formed and these damage the fibers of the food, forcing the food’s water content out of the walls, making them dried out and limp which is far from appetizing. Our unique cooking and IQF (freezing) process immediately locks in the exact freshness and fresh flavors of our products directly after cooking has occurred. Even after being frozen for 6 months our ready-to-eat products can be thawed and still taste as fresh as they were the moment they were cooked!
